Within an hours drive from the Monte Vista Hotel there are enough sights to see to fill many an daytrip. One of the region's most popular, Biltmore Estate is only 20 minutes down the road. Also nearby is the Thomas Wolfe Memorial. A little further away but well worth the visit is the Carl Sandburg Historic Home in Flat Rock, a charming village that adds to the experience.
Lake Lure and Chimney Rock State Park are within a short drive. If museums are your thing, the Swannanoa Valley Museum is a short stroll from the hotel and a museum honoring Black Mountain College, so important to the area’s history, is nearby in Asheville. So are the Asheville Art Museum, the Asheville Ghost Trolley and the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Asheville is worth a day trip and there is a lot to do and see, but after a day in the "city" it’s nice to make the 20-minute trip to your hotel in the "country" for a leisurely pace the following day.
